Location
This
project comprises three separate, relatively small claim blocks,
one 10 km ENE of the Key Lake Mine and the other two overlying basement rocks
respectively 8km SW and 12 km W of the Key Lake mine.
Geology
Project
areas cover different geologic environments, one overlies
Athabasca sandstone and conglomerates (50 to 150 metres to
basement). The other two cover exposures of the underlying
Wollaston domain. The Wollaston domain is of Lower Proterozoic
(Trans-Hudson) age and is composed of metamorphosed sediments (Psammites,
Pelites, and minor Calc-Silicates).
Exploration
During
the 1970's and 1980's, extensive exploration was done
primarily in the area of the Key Lake mine by Uranerz. Regional
geochemical and geophysical studies located numerous anomalies
in the district and some of these targets were drilled prior to
the discovery of the Key Lake mine. CanAlaska has used GIS to
compile these existing historical datasets and to assimilate
them in creating a powerful exploration tool.
