Grease River

Location and Access

The Grease River project of 15 claims is located 50 kilometres north west of the community of Black Lake. Access is by air, year round, and by winter roads. The project covers 70,084 ha in three non contiguous claim blocks that extend from Bulyea River, north of Fond du Lac, to Marytnuik Lake, north of Stony Rapids, and covers four geological domains.

Geology

The project area covers the heavily metamorphosed Archean gneisses, of the Train and Tanato domains in northern Saskatchewan. These are composed of orthogneisses, and paragneisses with minor intrusions and minor pelites and psammites. Along the eastern edge of the project area, is the Grease |River fault zone a major crustal break, and there are numerous minor structures.

Past Exploration and Development
During the late 1960's and late 1970's extensive regional prospecting and airborne geophysical work was carried out by the Canadian government on the project area. A very strong halo of uranium mineralization is evident from lake sediment surveys, and very high uranium - thorium background is recognized along the contacts of major structural zones.

CanAlaska's Exploration

As a result of a now terminated option period which existed in 2006/07, the Company received a compilation of all the historical work in preparation for the summer exploration season.

In the 2007 summer season, the majority of the project area was prospected and lakes were re-sampled for uranium. Over a dozen zones were identified where uranium mineralization in boulders or outcrop exceeded 0.1% U3O8, and values in some zones exceeded 1% U3O8. Further sampling and detailed work was recommended to quantify the size and extent of the new discoveries. In the summer, 2008, the Company completed an extensive prospecting and mapping programme over the three properties. The programme examined several known mineralized areas and discovered several other areas with interesting mineralization.

The 2008 mapping and prospecting programme produced samples that gave significant uranium assays including 1.36% U3O8 (sample OM471, 0.61kg) and 1.28% U3O8 (sample RD270, 0.18kg) from higher grade vein zones, but there was also indications of larger scale lower grade intrusive hosted uranium mineralization.
